Thanks to the over 1500 visitors to the 2006 St Bart’s Summer Fete and Food, generous matching funding from Vodafone, donations from many other organisations and help from dozens of students, staff and parents we raised nearly £8,000 for the school. But the Food Festival and Fete isn’t just about fund raising – it’s one of the few school events in which everyone can play a part.

One of the most time consuming parts of organising the fete is recruiting the 100 or so helpers we need on the day. Often that involves making lost of telephone calls, but you can help reduce the workload enormously by emailing to let us know how you can help.

If you can spare some time on the day, please email us via stbartspa@gmail.com to let us know how you’d like to help (see below) and including a telephone contact number if possible.

There are three ways in which you can help.

  • Helping to get everything ready on the Friday afternoon before the fete and early on the Saturday morning.
  • Helping to set up and run a stall or game.
  • Helping to pack things away and tidy up at the end of the day.

Of course if you’d like to be involved in all three (as a number of us are) you’d be very welcome to do so! But if you’d like to express a preference for setting up, running a stall or packing away please mention this in your email.

If you’d like to help with a particular stall or game, we’ve listed some of those we’re likely to run this year below so please let us know which you’d prefer. We obviously can’t guarantee to meet everyone’s preferences, but where we can we will.

  • Gate
  • Plants
  • Hog roast
  • BBQ
  • Beer tent
  • Refreshments (teas, cakes snacks)
  • Cakes (for sale)
  • White Elephant
  • Coconut shy
  • Darts game
  • Pets corner
  • Books
  • Hoopla
  • 50p in a bucket game
  • Ladder game
  • Stocks
  • Skittles
  • Ice Cream
  • Children & teens tombola
  • Wine bottles game
  • Grocery tombola
  • Bottle tombola
  • Wheel of chocolate
  • Lucky dip
  • Key Game
  • Lollipop game

Please note that this isn’t a comprehensive list of stalls – others will be run on the day. Two of the school’s bands will also be appearing on the day and we’re also planning to run our popular House Food competition once again.

If you have a game or stall you’d like to run: something you’ve done before or a stall to promote your business, please get in touch.

Lastly, we found that last year we were short of helpers early on Saturday which meant things were a little fraught in the hour or so before the fete opened. We are going to try hard to ensure that that doesn’t happen again this year, but the more help we get with setting up the better.

If you’d like to talk to one of the organisers rather than emailing, please phone Susan Mayes on 01488 682853 or Andrew Cooper on 01635 528210

* please note that the 2006 Food Festival and Fete raised over £8,000, not £4,000 which is mentioned in the article.
