Is Halloween Festival A Christian Practice?
July 25th, 2010 | RSS Feeds | Posted In: festivals, holiday pageantBefore, during the old times, measuring the day starts on the sunset to the next sunset. On the evening of October 31, almost everyone will celebrate a holiday, the Halloween. It happens that in Christians, November 1 is the All Saints Day. Halloween is the evening of November 1if using the Julian calendar, but October 31 when using the Gregorian calendar. All Hollows Even is the origin name of Halloween that also corresponds the All Saints day. Halloween is the festival celebrated by Celts of Ireland, Britain and France at the end of the harvest which is also called Samhain.
Samhain is a pagan festival and at the same time it is the celebration to give honor to the ancestors who are already dead equivalent to All Saints Day.
Christians also celebrated the All Saints Day the same date as the All Hollows Even. Christians do not actually have Halloween parties, but others also adopt Halloween party. Halloween is a pagan festival. According to the Christian belief, a real Christian is part of the body of Christ and they should follow His teachings just as He is the head. In His teachings in the Bible, He clearly stated to His followers that do not follow the pagan practices. So, it is by the conscience of the Christians if they would follow a Halloween festival. In the book of the Bible particularly in Matthew, Mark and Luke, Jesus commanded to do not pray like pagans. Do not worry about the earthly things like the foods to eat, what to drink or the clothes to wear for these are the things the pagans are after (Matt. 6:31-32). He taught about loving someone not the same by the pagans. Pagans love only those who love them but He commanded to love your enemies also (Matt. 5:44-47).
Christian means people of Christ who believes in Him. He clearly stated in His words through His prophets that he hates practices that is not according to His commands and He even hates sin. Though Christians will adopt Halloween festival, still it remains pagan act.
I think people get too uptight about Halloween. Halloween is an awesome family holiday. Everyone gets to have fun.
