A Halloween festival was originated from United Kingdom and was mostly acknowledged and celebrated in countries in the Western world. After this country celebrated this kind of festival, many other countries like Canada, Ireland, United States, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Japan, and Australia, were adopting it in their practices. Though it is not all the citizens that are following this celebration, but some ignite to do the same. It is originated from Celtic festival (Samhain) that is usually celebrated at harvest season’s end. Pagans were individuals who have this kind of festival. Now, many countries that are not pagans are also convinced to have a celebration like this. During the end of harvest season, they will get out the best livestock and slaughter it for the preparation of winter season.
Halloween festival is the modern term of the celebration. Pagans believe that when the night of October 31 falls, it is the time when dead people become dangerous and they will cause sickness. It is the name that comes from the old version “All Hallows Day” night. To acknowledge the spirit of evil spirits, the people who will celebrate will wear any mask that will look like the underworld creatures. One of the most common symbols they are using is a candle lit inside a carved pumpkin. It is made to frighten and to make the place to have the ambiance that is scary. They also have bonfire along with the celebration. They demonstrate the image of witches, ghost, ghouls, vultures; pumpkin men, owl, spiders, goblin, zombies, mummies, skeletons, black cats and demons look alike.
These will give the clear idea that the celebration is in honor of the bad spirits though it is not mention. The idea will tell us that dead are scary and they are not different from dead individuals. Quite simple, they are giving acknowledgement of the existence of these spirits that rule over in many places that brings destruction to the soul of many. The belief is a pagan way of living. Until this new generation, children think that dead are scary because in celebrating “Saints Day”, images and masks being used are very scary.

So when it comes to the secularreligious status quo in Israel, many accept it, but that does not mean it is accepted well. For example Classical rabbis usually downplay the military and nationalistic manner? was never taught that the holiday had nationalist or military dimensions, and have never heard it interpreted as such. I am secular Jew living in Tel Aviv. am not saying this is good or bad, but just stating it as fact because it is true, and rarely quoted in mainstream media. The majority of Israelis are secular.
7th, at am Gilad Lotan Lisa,First of all, thanks for you questions and comments. Those who consider themselves Israeli first and Jewish second surprisingly vast majority. Hanukkahs roots are extremely militaristic.
The reason for the revolt was keeping faith. You present only one translated post by relatively obscure Israeli blogger to support your thesis, and you do not provide links to support any of the claims you make in the first four paragraphs of your post. Maarten St. Jews did that well too by their own will in that time and later in history. Hanukkahs roots are extremely militaristic.
Jews didnt revolted the Greeks because their culture, horse racing, wrestling, play their music and so. For instance, not living in fear when buses are blown up left right and center. And the Jews revolted against that stance and action in their will to keep their identity, belief and values untouched and safe. The Greeks forced Jews to worship their idols and leave GD. Hanukkahs roots are extremely militaristic.

The wikipedia article linked to in the previous comment contains much of the information quoted regarding Hanukkahs historical value. And many of them resent being dictated by strident ultraorthodox minority. I am unsure where you were raised, but in this article write about the mainstream Israelisecular views those who were born and raised in Israel. Only few revolt and marry by citizen laws abroad mainly when married with non Jewish.2.
